Salter Drell Motley was born April 24, 1886.

As he was parking his car preparatory to going to work, Salter Drell Motley, 45, died suddenly of a heart attack at the Columbia Duck Mills at 6:45 o’clock this morning, September 28, 1931.
Mr. Motley was apparently in good health when he left his home this morning and his death is a great shock to his many friends in New Brooklyn where he has made his home for the past 10 years. He had been connected with Duck Mill for 10 years and prior to that time had lived in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the new Brooklyn Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. A. M. Smith. Interment will be in Union Baptist churchyard at Blaney.
Surviving him or: his widow, the former Miss Dora Sims of Charlotte; four daughters, Mrs. W. C. Carnes of Hamlet, Miss May Motley, Miss Hazel Motley, and Miss Ellen Motley, and one son, S. D. Motley, Jr., all of New Brookland. Also one sister, Mrs. Buck Locklin of Columbia and a brother, B. M. Motley of Columbia.
