Blaney, September 10 – Blaney high school will open Thursday morning, September 15, with a registration and classification of people’s informal exercises will be held in the school auditorium and regular work will follow.
Following is a list of the teachers for the 1927-28 session: Superintendent and teacher of history, Leonardo Andrea; principal of the high school and teacher of Latin and English, Miss Eulalie Sheely of Ballentine; teacher of science and agriculture, Denver W. Traxler of Branchville; teacher of English and French, Miss Virginia Doar of Georgetown; teacher of mathematics in high and grammar school, Miss Myrtle Laird of Pelion; principal of the grammar school and teacher of geography and hygiene, Miss Connie Lee Andrea of Taylors; teacher of English and music supervisor, Miss Susie Shannon of Parr; teacher of history and art supervisor, Miss Mabel Petersen of Charleston; teacher of spelling and penmanship supervisor, Miss Blanche Wyndham of Georgetown; teacher of reading and third grade supervisor, Miss Myra Pettigru of Abbeville; second grade teacher and librarian, Mrs. Mary Simpson of Blaney; first grade teacher, Miss Jean Starnes of Ridgeway. The faculty is exceptionally strong this year and a progressive school is looked for with an enrolment much over 300.
The formal opening exercises will be held in the school building Tuesday evening, September 20, at 7:30 o’clock with a reception for the teachers given by the members of the School Improvement association in the school lobby, followed by an address in the school auditorium by J. H. Hope, state superintendent of education, of Columbia.
