ELGIN – A funeral service for Blanche Virginia Rabon Monroe, 80, of Elgin, will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Union Baptist Church, 1177 Wildwood Lane, Elgin, SC with The Reverend Jerry Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 o’clock. Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church Gym Fund, P.O. Box 116, Elgin, SC 29045. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mrs. Monroe went to be with the Lord on September 18, 2009 after an extended battle with brain cancer. Born in Blaney, SC, January 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Rabon, Sr. and Edith Blanche Summer Rabon. She was a graduate of Blaney High School, attended Palmer Business College, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter 59, and Union Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer for over 40 years. G.P. and Virginia owned and operated Monroe Poultry Farm for 35 years.

Virginia loved her Lord, family, church family, and friends. She never met a stranger. Virginia always brought smiles and laughter wherever she went with her witty humor. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, G.P. Monroe, Jr.; daughters, Myra Monroe and Cynthia (Don) Stewart of Elgin; son, Gill Monroe (Brenda)of Lexington; sisters, Mary Hudson and Adele Kelly of Elgin; brothers, John Rabon and Stanley Rabon of Elgin; grandchildren, Denise (Linnie) Branham, Hank (Cate) Goff, Drew Monroe, Ashley (Matt) Smith, Misty Burroughs and Chelsea Greiner; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her sisters Helen Steadman, Mattie Branham and Jessie Catoe Higgins.
