Youth Killed in Collision With Patrolman’s Car; Negro Is Dead

Officials of the state highway patrol began an investigation Wednesday into the death of Rembert Sanders, 19, in an automobile collision with Highway Patrolman Leo Jenkins near Camden Tuesday Night.

Captain Sam E. Owen said he had instructed Lieut. George L. Young to examine the scene of the wreck and to question Patrolman Jenkins. Jenkins is now in the Camden hospital wil laceration of the scalp and other minor injuries.

Lieut Young will render a report on the case this week. Ben M. Sawyer, cheif highway commissioner, declared he awaits details of the accident before making any statement.

Funeral service are to be held for Sanders at the Union Baptist church near Blaney at 11 o’clock Thursday morning. He is survived by Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Sanders (Corrie Vernell Motley Sanders), who adopted him.

Melton Thornton and two girl companion of Sanders suffered slight injuries when the cars crashed. The accident was the first fatal affair in which a highway patrolman figured as driver of one of the cars.
