Jacobs – Turpin

Of wide interest was the lovely wedding of Miss Thelma Pauline Jacobs of Blaney and Columbia and Warrant Officer John Gilbert Turpin of Beverly, Mass., and Fort Jackson, which took place at 6 o’clock on the evening of October 26 at Greenlawn Baptist church, Columbia. The Rev. James G. Jennings, pastor, officiated, using the double ring ceremony.

Floor baskets of white chrysanthemums and white lighted candles in candelabra effectively decorated the church for the occasion.

Mrs. Helen Jenkins of Columbia furnished the wedding music. Before the ceremony she played “Simple Confession” (Thome), “Awakening” (Englemann), “Viennese Refrain” (Johnson) and “The Sweetest Story Ever Told” (Stults), “Bridal Chorus” from “Lohengrin” (Wagner) was used for the processional and “Wedding March” (Mendelssohn) for the recessional.

Mrs. A. L. Porth of Columbia, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and her only attendant. She wore a two-piece soldier-blue dress with black accessories, and carried a nose-gay of red roses.

Capt. W. L. Snerwood of Atlanta and Fort Jackson was the bridegroom’s best man.

The lovely brunet bride was given in marriage by her eldest brother, Pfc. Gilbert B. Jacobs of Temple, Texas. She was attired in a lovely two-piece dusty-rose wool dress with brown accessories, and wore a corsage of lavender orchids.

Mrs. Turpin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Jacobs (Leila R. Jacobs) of Blaney. The bride is a graduate of Dentsville high school and Draughon’s Business college. She has been connected with the ordnance branch, supply and service division, Fort Jackson, for the past 16 months.

Warrant Officer Turpin is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Turpin of Beverly, Mass. He received his education at the Beverly high school and Trade school in that city. He was been in the United States army for the past four years. Warrant Officer Turpin is with the automotive branch, Supply and Service division, Fort Jackson.

Following the wedding the young couple visited the bridegroom’s relatives in Beverly, Mass., and other Interesting places in the North.

They are now making their home in Columbia.

Among the out-of-town guest attending the wedding were: Mrs. G. T. Jacobs, mother of the bride; Misses Juanita Jacobs and Edna Jacobs, Elton Jacobs and Frank Jacobs, Mrs. I. J. Jacobs, Mrs. J. J. Jacobs, Mrs. L. L. Lewis and Mrs. R. W. Williams, all of Blaney; Lieut. John Evans, Dallas, Tex.; Capt. C. Y. Strausz, Atlanta, Ga., and Col J. A. Sutton, Moorestown, N. J.
