Negro Church Appointments Are Read

Darlington, Nov. 28 – Bishop Lorenzo H. King, Atlantic coast area, central jurisdiction, closed his first quadrennial of an epochal session of the South Carolina conference Methodist Church which convened at St. James Methodist church, Rev. D. E. Thomas, entertaining pastor, Sunday afternoon with the reading of appointments for 214 charges in nine district of conference.

Delegates to the general and jurisdictional conferences, prominent visiting church leaders, gains in all phases of the conferences’ activities were highlights of the epochal 138th annual session of this Methodist group.

Ordination of 13 deacons and 11 elders Sunday morning was the preliminary service that preceded the reading of appointments by the bishop, L H. King, at the close of the four-day sessions.

Prominent visitors presented at the conference included Dr. Robert A. Williams, pastor of Asbury Methodist church, Washington; Dr. D. W. Henry, pastor Tindley chapel, Philadelphia; President Willis King, Gammon Theological seminary, Atlanta; President J. B. Randolph, Clafin college, Orangeburg; President David Jones, Bennett college, Greensboro, N. C.

Board representatives who spoke at the conference included Edgar A. Love, church extension: R. N. Brooks, Christian Advocate, central edition: A. R. Howard, board of temperance: N. J. Crolley, pension and relief; Professor Touchtone, board of lay activities, and Phyliss M. Gibbes, Women Society for Christian Service.
