Robert Darrell “Bob” Wendell was born February 3, 1937 in Oak Hill, West Virginia, the son of Conard Harold Wendell and Ella C. Jenkins Wendell.

1940 Census Infomrtion:

According to the United States Census recorded on May 2, 1940, Conard H Wendell (26) rented a home in Fayette County, West Virginia. Also in the home was his wife, Ella Wendell (24) and their children; Thelma J Wendell (5), Bobbie Darrell Wendell (3) and Carol Sue Wendell (3 months). All family members were reported to be born in West Virginia; and on April 1, 1935, Conrad and Ella both lived in another rural location of Fayette County. Conrad was reported as working in the electric department.

On August 10, 1957, Robert Darrell Wendell (21) married Gloria Faye Moore (18), in Fayette County, West Virginia.

2020

On April 8, 2020, Robert Darrell Wendell was listed as the living father in the obituary of Richard Allan Sanders.

LUGOFF –A homegoing celebration service for Robert Darrell “Bob” Wendell, 83, will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at International Praise Church of God with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Doyle Roberts will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to American Kidney Foundation.

Mr. Wendell passed away at home on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Born in Oak Hill, WV, he was the son of the late Conard Harold Wendell and Ella C. Jenkins Wendell. He retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service having served in Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and Guam. He also taught electrical for Central Carolina Technical College, Eddie Jackson Technical School and the Sumter County Career Center. He enjoyed making crafts, sewing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Amy Dobson Wendell; daughters, Theresa Putrel (Anthony Putrel) and Angie Mathis (Bill Mathis); sister, Carol Sue Neil; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Richard Allan Sanders; sister, Thelma Jane Wendell Fleming; and brother, Roy Gene Wendell.
