Wheels Turn For Annual Elgin Catfish Stomp

ELGIN – Wheels are turning for the third annual Elgin Catfish Stomp, scheduled for Dec. 2.

Several new additions are planned for the day, which will include an 11 a.m. Christmas parade and the noon serving of the famous catfish stew.

The Catfish Stomp will be held at 12:15 p.m., beginning in front of Blaney Elementary School. This 6.2-mile (10,000 meter) event will be run over a scenic course.

Entry fee for the run will be $4, with advance registration before Nov. 25 worth a tee shirt denoting the event.

Advance fee checks may be made payable to the sponsoring Elgin Lions Club and mailed to Dr. Larry Owen, P. O. Box 486, Elgin, S. C. 29045.

The Rev. Jim Salter, parade chairman, announced that bands will compete for $300 in cash awards with a $150 check going to the winning band judged in its parade performance. Second place will be worth $100 and third place $50.

Commercial, amateur and religious floats are welcome to enter the parade, according to the Rev. Salter. A parade entry deadline of Nov. 24 has been set.
