Dorothy Claire Funchess Ott was born February 27, 1927 in Rowesville, Orangeburg, South Carolina, daughter of John David Funchess and Merle Albertine Inabinet Funchess.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 14, 1930, John D Funchess (30) owned a home in New Hope, Orangeburg, South Carolina, with his wife Merle Funchess (29), it was reported that there were married when he was 25 and she was 24. Also in the homer were their children; Dorthy Funchess (3) and Jamet Funchess (1). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina; John D was a farmer.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 10, 1930, John David Funchess (39) owned a home in New Hope, Orangeburg, South Carolina with his wife Merle Funchess (39). Also in the home were their children; Dorothy Funchers (13), Janet Funchers (11) and Mary Funchers (7). It was reported that all family member were born in South Carolina; lived in the same house on April 1, 1935; and that John David was a farmer.

1985

Mrs. Dorothy Funchess Ott, 58, wife of F. Mitchell Ott, of Columbia, died Sunday, November 3, 1985.

Born in Rowesville, she was a daughter of Mrs. Merle I. Funchess and the late John Davis Funchess.

Mrs. Ott, a graduate of Lander College, was a teacher at Blaney Elementary School for 17 years. She was a member of Kathwood Baptist Church and past president of the Lois Sunday School class.

Surviving are her husband; sons, Francis M. Ott Jr. of Irmo and John F. Ott of Chapin; her mother of Branchville; sisters, Mrs. Jeanette F. Mason of Hampton and Mrs. Mary B. Wright of Branchville; and grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 1985. at Kathwood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jerry D. McKinney and the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Deneen. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery at Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Kathwood Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, November 5, 1985. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devin Street Chapel.
