Daniel Lee Collier

ELGIN – Funeral service with military honors for Daniel Lee Collier, 68, will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Blaney Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Philip Blankenship will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Blaney Baptist Church, 1400 Blaney Road, Elgin, SC 29045.

Mr. Collier died Monday, November 7, 2011. Born in Imboden, Va., he was a son of the late Lawrence Damon Collier and Bernice Miller Collier. He retired from the United States Army after 20 years, having served in Vietnam. He also retired from the Kershaw County Detention Center where he was the assistant administrator.

Mr. Collier was a Mason and enjoyed reading western novels, fishing, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Patsy Peterson Collier; sons, Michael R. Collier (Robin) of Greenville, S.C. and Damon Collier (Stacy) of Elgin; brothers, Glen Collier (Carol) of Hope-well, Va., Wayne Collier (Barbara) of Big Stone Gap, Va., and Jack Collier of Chester, Va.; sisters, Barbara Harkleroad (Jack) of Big Stone Gap, Va., Phyllis Barnett (Earl) of Imboden, Va., and Louise Dotson (Herb) of Imboden, Va.; and grandchildren, Jessica Collier, Joshua Collier, Rachel Collier, Matthew Collier, and Reed Collier.
