Oscar James “Dago” Hornsby was born February 20, 1905 to James Hornsby and Elizabeth Maddox Hornsby.

Funeral services for Oscar Hornsby, 28, Richland county farmer, who was killed Sunday, October 7, 1934 when the car which he was driving left the old Camden road a mile below Messers mill and crashed into a tree, were to be conducted at 3 o’clock this afternoon, October 8, 1934 from the residence, 15 miles from Columbia on the Percival road. Services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Woodward of Lugoff. Interment followed at the Kelly Cemetery near Pontiac.

Hornsby and his brother, Jiggs Hornsby, were on their way to visit friends in the Messers mill section when the radius rod of the automobile became detached, causing the driver to lose control of the car. Jiggs Hornsby received only slight injuries.

Mr. Hornsby had been in the community in which he lived for eight years. He leaves many friends who regret his passing.

Surviving him are his father, James Hornsby; four sisters, Mrs. Janie Dinkins of Pontiac, Mrs. Helen Branham, Miss Lizzie Marie Hornsby, both of Blaney, and Mrs. Johnny Branham of Lugoff; two brothers, Luther Hornsby of Columbia and Jiggs Hornsby of Richland county.

Coroner John A. Sargeant, who investigated the death with Sheriff T. Alex Heise and Deputy Sheriff Wade H. Rawlinson, announced that no inquest would be held.
