Capacity Crowd Coming From Large Area Hears Announcements at End of Session.

Orangeburg, Dec. 1 – Bishop Frederick T. Keeney closed the 131st annual session and delivered his farewell sermon to the South Carolina annual conference of the Methodist Episcopal church Sunday morning. Two thousand jammed Trinity church, where the session were held, to hear the reading of appointments.

Bishop Keeney spoke on Personal evangelism in his farewell sermon, admonishing at the close that each church member go out and bring in new consecrated souls for the church. “Be soul savers by the lives we live rather than with much talk.”

Impressive services followed the morning message when Bishop Keeney, assisted by his cabinet of eight district superintendents, ordained four deacons and five elders. Deacons ordained were the Rev. Cleveland C. Barr, the Rev. Virgil S. Carter, the Rev. James H. Harley and the Rev. Luther J. Jackson, Elders ordained were the Rev. James S. Dial, the Rev. Lawrence A. Gilder, the Rev. William B. McKay, the Rev. John R. Norwood and the Rev. Thomas W. White.

Before the reading of appointments by Bishop Keeney, two resolutions were heard at the closing morning service. The Rev. N. T. Bowen of Antioch read the resolution of thanks and appreciation to the hosts and the church for the entertainment of the conference. THe Rev. J. B. Taylor read a final resolution of tribute and his farewell to Bishop Keeney for his eight years’ service to the South Carolina conference. This resolution was signed by each eight of the district superintendents and the Rev. J. B. Taylor.
