Spart James “Pete” McKinney

Spart James “Pete” McKinney, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Camden SC on December 10, 2020. He was born in Greenville SC on July 22, 1930, the son of the late Spartan James McKinney and Mary Howell McKinney. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University, Pete was a retired engineer with DuPont. He also retired as a Lt Colonel from the Air Force Reserves, having served on active duty during the Korean War. He will be remembered as the coordinator for the addition and renovation at the Camden Archives and Museum. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Pete was married to the late Sheila R McKinney. He is survived by his daughters, Pat Criminger of Winston-Salem NC, Kay McKinney (Robert Brooks) of Camden, Julie McKelvey (Stewart) also of Camden, Emily Smith (Clayton) of Irmo; stepchildren, Danny Riddick of Camden, Allison Foster (Dean) of Meggett SC, and David Riddick of Philadelphia PA; grandchildren, William McKelvey, Ian Smith and Evan Smith; step-grandchildren, Durham Foster and Brandon Foster and Colin Riddick. Also surviving is his sister, Mary Pat Cress of Corte Madera CA.

A private service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Friends of the Camden Archives and Museum 1314 Broad Street Camden SC 29020, Grace Episcopal Church 1315 Lyttleton Street, Camden SC 29020 or the charity of one’s choice.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
