Jay Tanzer
December 18, 1932 – January 19, 2021

Jay Tanzer, husband of Rita M. Tanzer, died Tuesday January 19th, 2021. Jay was born in 1932 in Peabody, MA, son of the late Morris Tanzer and Rose (Price) Tanzer. He was in the army, active and reserves, for 13 years. He graduated with honor from Northeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, and was employed by DuPont in technical and management positions in Wilmington, DE, Waynesboro, VA and Camden, SC, for 44 years, retiring in 1997. For many of those years he was also active in breeding and raising cattle and was a silent partner in Dusty Bend Frame Shop. He spent the next 12 years as a Senior Scientist with Louisiana-Pacific Inc in Portland, OR and Franklin, TN before returning to Camden in 2009 to enjoy family, farming, and friends. His penchant for driving old cars and tractors and using nothing but a rusty wrench to fix everything provided a rich source of entertainment for friends and acquaintances! He was past president of Temple House of Israel in Staunton, VA and Temple Beth-El in Camden, SC. He was an active member of Golden Club of Camden.

Jay is survived by Rita, his wife of 57 years; his daughter, Lisa Tanzer (Alan Kraig) of Los Angeles, CA; son, Matthew Tanzer (Danielle) of Durham, NC; daughter, Leslie Tanzer (Matthew Prussner) of Kingstown, RI; grandchildren, Julia and Jacob Tanzer of Durham, NC; and brother, Louis Tanzer of Beverly, MA, as well as nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Tanzer and sister, Millie Kuperman.

Jay was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle… and friend.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Jay would love that.
