A funeral service to celebrate the life of Luene Smith Clyburn, 95, of Camden, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at First Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Bethany Westville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall at 1:00PM, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Camden Bulldog Club, PO Box 785, Camden, SC 29020 in memory of Luene Clyburn, lifetime member.
Luene died Sunday, July 11, 2021. Born in the township of Spring Hill in Lee County. she was the daughter of the late Walter Lucious and Sallie Louise Huggins Smith, and wife of the late William Roberts Clyburn, Sr. Luene was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of Young at Heart and the Silvertone Choir. She was also active in the VFW Auxiliary, the SC Women’s Bowling Association (SCWBA), and coached recreational softball with the Kershaw County Recreational Department for over 30 years.
Luene is survived by her daughters, Judy Stone and Deborah McPherson (Eddie), both of Camden, and Cindy Clyburn of Lugoff; son, William Roberts Clyburn, Jr (Judy) of Lugoff; grandchildren, Jack Crayne, Hal Robert Crayne, Missy Harvey, Julie Smith, Billie Black, Randy McPherson, William Roberts Clyburn, III, and Stephanie Sumner; great-grandchildren, Jack Jr., John, Mary Margaret, Grace, Mary Ella, Jolie, Dean, Kelsy, Joe, Hunter, Mallory, Johnny, Camden, and Jared; and sisters, Aleen Vinson of Newton, NC and Catherine Ann Hinson of Columbia.
In addition to her parents and husband, Luene was predeceased by her son, John Carl Clyburn; sisters, Mamie Knotts, Beulah Hinson, Mattie Mae Smith, and Patricia Ann Smith; and brothers, Edward Smith, Bruce Smtih, Lucious Smith, Jr., Wilber Smith, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Smith.
