Camden, August 7, 1913 – As a result of a long standing dispute in regard to a land boundary Henry Sessions, was shot and killed by Joe Simpson near Blaney yesterday about dusk.
Both men were of excellent standing in their community. Simpson is at present in jail at Camden having been arrested by Sheriff Huckabee this afternoon at about 2 o’clock. The sheriff went to the scene of the killing last night, but did not effect an arrest according to his statement on account of the fact that Simpson was at that time on his way to Camden to surrender.
There were only two witnesses to the tragedy, Earl Simpson, son of the man under arrest, and Columbus Cook, a negro. At the coroner’s inquest held this morning only Columbus Cook was examined. According to his testimony the affair occurred just outside Simpson’s ginhouse, where Sessions was sitting in a buggy. The negro testifies, in effect that Sessions accused Simpson of “pulling land corners,” the lie was passed between them and Simpson drew his pistol, shooting his adversary twice in the neck. It is claimed that Sessions attempted to use a knife but the witness said that he could not say whether or not this was the case.
