Torrence – Hollis Wedding

Prior to her wedding at 6 p.m. August 14 in Pisgah Methodist Church, State Park, Mrs. Hollis was Kay Frances Torrence. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Torrence of Columbia. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mose Hollis of this city.

Torrence – Hollis Wedding

In a lovely ceremony at 6 p.m. August 14 in Pisgah Methodist Church, State Park, Miss Kay Frances Torrence became the bride of David Wilson (Buddy) Hollis. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. R. W. Hollis of Ehrhardt, uncle of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Frances Becknell, soloist and Mrs. Van Burch, organist, rendered the wedding music.

The ushers were Leroy Hill, Amos Lever, Julian Johnson and W. L. Hinnant.

Mose M. Hollis, father of the bridegroom, was best man.

Miss Jacqueline Torrence, cousin of the bride, was the maid of honor. The bridesmaid were Misses Betty Jean Johnson and Anne Hollis, cousins of the bridegroom, Dorothy Willis and Sally Medlin, cousins of the bride. They wore dresses of tile-blue crystalite in a ballerina-length, having long fitted torso with off shoulder neckline with crossed pleats. The bouffant skirt, worn over crinolines, feature acuff at the dropped waistline. They carried nosegays of asters with satin ribbon and streamers.

David Truesdale was the ring-bearer, and Mary Katherine Truesdale was the flower girl. They are the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pope Truesdale and niece and nephew of the bride.

The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, Paul Torrence, was lovely in her wedding gown of 17th century design of imported Chantilly lace over slipper-satin spreading into a long train. The bodice featured a ruffled lace yoke encrusted with see pearls and the bouffant over skirt fell away from a pleated front panel of nylon tulle. The long lace sleeves ended in calla lily points. Her short veil of bridal illusion was attached to a fitted cap of lace edged with pearlized orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of white rosebuds, centered with a white orchid and showered with tuberoses and white satin ribbons. Her only ornament was a string of pearls, gift of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Paul Torrence, mother of the bride wore a blue lace dress and a purple orchid corsage.

Mrs. Mose Hollis, mother of the bridegroom, wore a fuchsia lace dress and a purple orchid corsage.

Immediately following the ceremony, the bride’s parents entertained at a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Assisting the bridal couple in receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Clackley and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Derrick. Mrs. Frances Beckness kept the bride’s register.

Presiding at the punch bowls and assisting in serving were: Miss Lavada Mae Lever, Miss Patsy Medlin, Mrs. Alvin Hinnant, Mrs. H. K. Corley and Mrs. W. L. Hinnant. Miss Betty Jean Johnson cut and served the wedding cake after the bride and bridegroom had cut the traditional first slice.

During the evening the bride and bridegroom left for a wedding trip to points of interest in Florida. For traveling the bride wore a rose nylon suit with black and white accessories and the orchid from her bouquet.

Mrs. Hollis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Torrence of Eau Claire. She finished Eau Claire High school and is now employed with the State Highway Department, Supply and Equipment Division.

Mr. Hollis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mose Hollis of Eau Claire, finished Eau Clair High school and attended the S. C. Technical Institute. He is now employed with the Engineering Department of the City of Columbia.

Upon their return to Columbia the couple will make their home at 3803 Marstella Avenue, Eau Claire.

Torrence, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Culley, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rowell, Mr. and Mrs. T.D. Williams, Gaston; Mr. and Mrs. John Becknell, Eastover; Miss Shirley Taylor and Franklin Price, Lexington.
