Naomi E. Boykin was the oldest of eight children; born in Kershaw (Camden) to the late Spencer M. Boykin and Marie H. Boykin. She received her early Christian training at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church (Kershaw County) where her Father and Mother were members.
Having experienced Naomi’s patience and love for children, her sister Laura and brother-in-law Bill, who lived in Columbia, Maryland asked Naomi in 1975, to come and live with them and held with their three and four-year-old children because their employment required them to be out of town frequently. Naomi agreed and continued to live with her sister and family until she returned home to care for her Mother in 1993.
After returning home, Naomi renewed her membership at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. While in Columbia, Maryland Naomi was a member of Hopkins United Methodist Church in Highland, Maryland and Actively worked with kindergarten children, which was her passion.
After Laura and Bill’s children entered first grade Naomi became a certified Pre-Kindergarten Teacher and worked for Nature Way Children’s Center in Columbia, Maryland. She retired after 18 years. She found every state of her life working with children fulfilling.
Laura and Bill were blessed to have Naomi in their lives as part of their family. She was the children’s second Mom; she loved them and they loved her. Most important it enable Laura and Bill to continue employment without worrying about their children.
As well as her parents she was preceded by one sister, Francene R. Williams and one brother, Samuel H. Boykin.
She was devoted to her family, leaving as survivors, two brothers, Spencer Boykin and George Boykin (Cynthia), one brother-in-law, Raymond Williams, three sisters, Laura Prioleau, Wilba Boykin and Larrye Boykin, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and loving relatives and friends.
