Eighteen Enlist in Regular Army During September

Eighteen young men were enlisted in the Regular Army and seven previous service men discharged less than three years ago signed for the Regular Army service during the month of September, it was reported yesterday by Sgt. Clifford C. Floyd, in charge of the Columbia army recruiting office.

Applicants accepted at Columbia for enlistment in the Regular Army are as follows:

Oliver H. Prater, Batesburg;
Kelly D. Sinson, Camden;
Robert L Young, Cassatt;
Cecil H. Sceley, Blaney;
John A Harmon, Lykesland;
Wallace S. Holloman, Camden;
Eddie D. Riley, Jr., Columbia;
Parnell K. Day, Batesburg;
William E. Lindsey, West Columbia;
Ansel L. Todd, Columbia;
John C. Joyner, Bishopville;
Woodrow L. Brown, Bishopville;
Joe McMillen, Chester;
William C. Dixon, Bainbridge, Ga.;
David L. Ross, Lone Star;
John E. Crawford, Columbia;
Carroll B. Spradley, Batesburg;
and Winfield Puckett, Batesburg;

The above named men were enlisted for Fort Moultrie, Fort Bragg and the Hawaiian Islands.

The previous service men discharged less than three years who signed up for the Regular Army reserve during the month of September are:

Charles T. Murrary, Jr., 1328 Lady street, Columbia;
Charles A. Dean, 1121 College street, Columbia;
Harold L. Cartin, Route 3, Swansea;
Harold W. Hill, Route 4, Columbia;
Rondall D. Sauls, 1135 Olympia avenue, Columbia;
and Marcelles Kirkland, Route 1, Salley.

Sergeant Floyd announced the following vacancies for service in the Panama Canal department which will be filled October 10: Coast artillery, five, and chemical warfare service, one.

Any young single men between the age of 18 and 35 desiring to enlist for the above vacancies should report to Sergeant Floyd at Room 64, United States Courthouse building, for examination so that the necessary papers can be filled out prior to October 10.
