CAMDEN – Funeral services for Edith Nelson Horton, 86, will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Miles, Rev. George Cashwell, and Rev. Casey Mills will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 25, 2005, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2290 Heath Pond Road, Elgin, SC 29045, or to the A. Sam Karesh Longterm Care, Haile & Robert Streets, Camden, SC 29020.
Mrs. Horton, widow of Hazel C. Horton, died Wednesday, November 23, 2005. Born in Blaney, she was the daughter of the late Logan B. Nelson and Bernice Jeffers Nelson. She was the former co-owner of Haile Street Grocery and a member of Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Horton also attended Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught Sunday School, played the organ and worked with the youth of the church.
Surviving are a daughter, Muriel Horton of Charleston, son, Merlin Horton and his wife, Virginia, of North Myrtle Beach, grandchildren, Charles Horton and Benjamin Horton, sister, Ernistine Rabon of Lugoff, Bertha Goff of Elgin, brother, Lloyd Nelson of Elgin, and Lindsay Nelson of Myrtle Beach. She was blessed to have many faithful friends in the community. Mrs. Horton was predeceased by a sister, Mae H. Nelson and brothers, Lonnie Nelson and Lehman Nelson.
