Onnie Ogburn died peacefully at home on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the age of 88. He was born on May 14, 1933, in Camden, SC and was the son of the late Fred M. Ogburn and Nettie Smyrl Ogburn. Onnie graduated Camden High in 1952, attended Clemson for 2 years, 1952-1954, then went into the United States Army for 2 years, 1954-1956, serving in Germany during the Korean War era. When he returned home in 1956, he entered USC from which he graduated in 1959. He retired after 20 years from Goodyear Tire and Rubber in the Carolina’s. Then moved home and worked 10 years with Elliott Corporation in Columbia, SC and then his final 25 years with his daughter and wife at their travel agency, About Cruisin’ and Tourin’ in Columbia. He loved traveling all over the world with his family, He was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Camden, and also the American Legion, Post 17, in Camden.
Onnie is survived by his daughter, Dawn Ogburn-Antoinette and his son-in-law, Scott Antoinette, whom he considered a “second son” also 2 sisters-in-law, Nancy Ogburn (Gary), and Serena Ogburn (Larry), and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Onnie was predeceased by the “love of his life” for 55 years, Jo Ann Riley Horner Ogburn, deceased 2013, also, his son, Barry Ogburn, deceased 2017; sister, Nettie Leese Brown, and her husband, Henry; brothers, Fred Ogburn, Jr., and his wife June, Gary Ogburn and Larry Ogburn.
A Graveside service will be held at Quaker Cemetery in Camden, SC at 3:00pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.
