Sam H. Dawkins Dies; Was Sick Several Months

Sam Henry Dawkins, 72, of 2808 School House Rd., died at 7:30 a.m. today at Columbia Hospital after an illness of the past several months.

He was born at Blaney, and was the son of the late Will Dawkins and Liza Ross Dawkins. He was retired textile employe. Mr. Dawkins was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Essie Branham Dawkins; four daughters, Mrs Leila Brewer, Mrs. Eva Dawson, Mrs. Emily Blackmon, and Mrs. Virginia Stricklin, all of Columbia; three sons, Jesse Dawkins, Lester Dawkins, Sam Marshall Dawkins, all of Columbia; a sister Mrs. Lizzie Keith of Society Hill, S. C., two brothers, Jesse Dawkins and Mack Dawkins, both of Columbia; 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at the Union Baptist Church near Blaney Sunday afternoon. The body will be at Paschal-Regal Funeral Home until Saturday afternoon, when it will be taken to Mr. Dawkins’ home.

Dawkins Funeral Set Tomorrow

Services for Sam Henry Dawkins, 72, of 2808 School House Rd., will be held at 3:30 p. m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church near Blaney, conducted by the Rev. Ralph H. Kimball, pastor of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Walter F. Chapman. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Dawkins died at 7:30 a.m. yesterday after an illness of several months.

S. H. Dawkins Of Columbia Dies

Sam Henry Dawkins, 72, of 2808 School House Rd., died at 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning at Columbia Hospital after an illness of the past several months.

He was born at Blaney, and was the son of the late Will Dawkins and Liza Ross Dawkins. He was retired textile employe. Mr. Dawkins was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Essie Branham Dawkins; four daughters, Mrs Leila Brewer, Mrs. Eva Dawson, Mrs. Emily Blackmon, and Mrs. Virginia Stricklin, all of Columbia; three sons, Jesse Dawkins, Lester Dawkins, Sam Marshall Dawkins, all of Columbia; a sister Mrs. Lizzie Keith of Society Hill, S. C., two brothers, Jesse Dawkins and Mack Dawkins, both of Columbia; 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Honorary pallbearers will include H. W. Sanders, Ed Campbell, Talmadge Bowen, Fred Hunter, Dalton Goff, Glenn Dowell and Clyde Boykin.

Active and honorary pallbearers will meet at the church at 3:25 Sunday afternoon. The body will remain at Paschal-Regal Funeral Home until 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon, at which time it will be taken to 2808 School House Rd.

S. H. Dawkins Laid to Rest

A large number of relatives and friends paid their final respects the Sam Henry Dawkins yesterday as funeral services were held from Union Baptist Church near Blaney by the Rev. Ralph H Kimball, pastor of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Walter F. Chapman. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Dawkins, 72, lived at 2808 School House Rd. He died Friday morning at Columbia Hospital after an illness of several months.
