Camp Hobson Hilton, Blaney, Jan. 10. – Back on the job again. Guess the jubilation and exuberance of the holidays have worn off enough to allow ye reporter to pen a few lines without plunging off too far into realms of fantasy. Anyway, everybody had one swell time during the holidays, which came in two installments. The Christmas feat of the camp was given between the two period – and did the cooks do themselves proud!

Col. F. F. Jewett, district commander, paid Camp Hilton a brief visit Thursday, and seemed much pleased with our domicile. Lieutenant Wright, camp commander, seemingly receives “orchids”- to paraphrase Mrs. Winchell’s dear little boy- on every hand, and deservingly so.

What with the fairly frequent rains of the last three weeks, company 421 has been relieved of answering so many fire calls.

Religious services Sunday were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Craighill, rector of the Camden Episcopal church. We were sorry to learn last week that Capt. L. C. LaMotte, our army chaplain, had returned to his church in Waycross, Ga. We have not yet learned who is to take his place.

Despite cold weather the rattlesnakes are still up to their old tricks, Monday Mr. Lake’s detail killed a four-and-a-half footer with some eight rattles.

Hilton Hilarities: Whoopee tales of the holidays . . . . “Gordie” Guthrie taking “Black Jack” Harris Sister” Drcher et al. to the cleaners -. . . Nancy (Jack-of-All-Trades) Milligan worrying vocally about his many jobs . . . . Sam Smith still courting . . . The office force insisting upon mention of Skeeter McCaskill’s facile (that’s their word) manner of switching heart interests – personally I think there are all wet. . . . The “Willies” have Pete Czarnitzki running around in circle again. . . . And how Guthrie lover the Hils (not a typographical error – one “I’ is correct) . . . Ray (Spats) Hill taking a new tumble for a goil in Camden . . . Billie Butler and Izzy Roth discussing social functions. . . . Most hilarious hilarity of this broadcasts Mason Miranda asking the station agent in Columbia whether the CCC truck would meet the train in Blaney.
