CAPITALS DEFEAT FLORENCE QUINTET

Held to Close Score in First Two Quarters.

FINAL COUNT, 42-16

Columbia “B” Team Turns Back Blaney Cagers by Eighteen to Fourteen.

After a wild nip and tuck first half, Columbia high school pulled away after the intermission to defeat Florence high school basketeers last night at the C. H. S. gymnasium, 42 to 16. In a preliminary contest the Columbia “B” quintet defeated Blaney, 18 to 14.

Both the Capitals and the Jackets received many scoring changes in the first two quarters of their contest, but neither was able to hit the basket consistently. The first five minutes were scoreless, then Fetner rang a foul goal to break the ice.

Forrest Edwards and Robinson followed with field goals. Florence then began hitting the basket and a last minute floor shot was necessary to give the Caps a one-point lead just before the intermission.

Columbia was never headed after that and hit the net frequently in the second to more than double the count.

Edwards led Columbia’s scoring with 12 points and Robertson was runnerup with 12. Kitchens led the visitors with five.

Columbia will be host to Spartanburg high school basketeers Friday night.
