The South Carolina highway department has announced the low bidders on the 17 bridge, road and culvert projects, which were received Thursday at the office of the department in the state office building. No contracts have been award as yet on any of the projects. The department reserved the right of 30 days in which to consider the bids, also to reject any and all, according to J. Wesley Wilkes, secretary.
The project and the low bidders are as follows:
Aiken country: for the Construction of 6.178 miles of Route 121, beginning at Wagener and extending to Horsey’s bridge: low bidder, J. L. Carroll, Columbia, $48,076.13.
Clarendon county: for the construction of 8.521 miles of Routes 4 and 30, beginning at the end of Project 252 and extending to Summerton; low bid, $75,874.42, Killian and Watson, Hickory, N. C.
Clarendon county: for the construction of a treated timber bridge of eight 15 foot spans: A. V. Hooks, Charlotte, N. C., $4,616.07; second, Palmer Construction company, Florence, $4,672.62.
Edgefield county; for the construction of a reinforced concrete and steel bridge over Turkey creek on Route 21, two contracts proposed: Contract 1; R. G. Kennedy, Batesburg, low bidder, $13,627.57.
Fairfield county; for the construction of 3.38 miles of Route 22, beginning at the end of Project S-627-B and extending toward Great Falls: Harrison, Walters, and Prater, White Pine, Tenn., $38,306.17.
Fairfield county; for the construction of a triple 12 by 12 culvert, a triple 10 by 12 culvert, and a reinforced concrete bridge over Wateree creek; W. B. Boyle company, Sumter, $30,924.75.
Fairfield county; for the construction of 6.77 miles of Route 2, beginning at Strothers and extending to Salem Cross Roads: Cherokee Construction company, Blacksburg, $54,385.35.
Fairfield county; for the construction of 7.98 miles of Route 161, beginning at Salem Cross Roads and extending to Station 420.00; Cherokee Construction company, Blackburg, $79,149.37.
Fairfield county; for the construction of 2 miles of Route 22, beginning at the city limits of Winnsboro and extending to the beginning of Project 627-B: Cherokee Construction company, Blackburg, $14,019.35.
Georgetown county; for the construction of 10.909 miles of Route 40 a section between Black river and the Pee Dee river; J. L. Carroll, Columbia, $85,476.59.
Georgetown county; for the construction of three treated timber bridges, two of five 15 foot spans, and one of six 15 foot spans, J. L. Carroll, Columbia, $10,619.24.
Kershaw county; for the construction of an overhead bridge on Route 50 near Blaney; A. V. Hooks, Charlotte, N. C., $8,171.95.
Lexington county; for the construction of 12.14 miles of Route 6 between Edmund and Swansea; J. L. Carroll, Construction company, Mt. Gilead, N. C., $57,414.21.
Lexington county; for finishing the construction of 3.143 miles of Route 121: J. A. Livingston, North, $10,572.55.
