Eight Receive Sentences In Federal Court

Eight men received sentences today in United States district court, as the first week of the spring term of court opened. District Judge George Bell Timmerman is presiding.

Sentenced today were the following; On charge of violating the internal revenue act, Calvin Coolidge Knight, RFD, Swansea, four years’ probation; Ben McIver, Swansea, five years’ probation; Tom Roscoe Bush, Route 1, Blaney, four years’ probation; James Edward Shannon, Blaney, 16 months in prison plus a fine of $200; Woodrow Thomas Medlin, Route 3, Columbia, two years’ probation; Curtis Walter Hammond, Colonial Heights, Columbia, three years and three months’ probation.

Tommie Edward Sharpe of Columbia received four sentences, for impersonating an officer, illegally wearing the uniform of an officer, transporting stolen goods and violation of the motor vehicle theft act. Judge Timmerman Sentenced him to pay fine totaling $400, to serve 15 months in jail and five years on probation.
