Obituary of Heinz Burkard

Heinz Burkard passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at age 83.  

Heinz was born on March 25, 1938, in Grosskrotzenburg, Germany, to the late Max Burkard and Emma Burkard.  

Heinz loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  He immigrated to the United States in 1958 at age 19.  He met his wife, Waltraud, and they were married October 12, 1963.  They were married for 51 years until her death on July 3, 2015.  Heinz worked as a toolmaker in a machine shop and became a supervisor at Mayer Textiles in Greensboro, NC.  He retired from Mayer Textiles in 1996.  His special hobby since childhood was raising and racing homing pigeons.  He was also known as an excellent cook.  In 1997, he and Waltraud made their home in Camden, SC to be near family.

Heinz is survived by his son, Henry Burkard (Michele); daughter, Monica Sheorn (Mark); and grandchildren, Chance Sheorn and McCall Sheorn.

A Mass in Heinz’s honor will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 12:00pm at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1709 Lyttleton Street Camden, SC 29020.
