Sixty Young People See Newspaper Made — Also See Legislature
Sixty students of the Blaney public school visited the plant of The Columbia Record Thursday afternoon. The students represented the sixth, seventh and eight grade classes in civic government and were under the direction of Prof. L. Andrea, superintendent of the school. Miss Mabel Peterson, Miss Connie Andrea and Miss Myrtle Laird, teachers, also accompanied the students.
The trip from Blaney, about 20 miles, was made in school busses.
Prof. Andrea escorted the party to the state capitol where the legislature was visited.
Desiring the students to gain an intimate knowledge of the highly efficient organization required in the publication of a large daily newspaper. Prof Andrea arranged for a tour of The Record’s building. The business offices, circulation department and the presses were shown on the first floor and the students were then conducted to the second floor where the new department and the Associated Press office were visited. From there the students were conducted to the mechanical department. The heads of the various departments explained the place of their departments in the publication of the newspaper.
