B-C Students Compete for FHA Posts

Two members of the Brookland-Cayce chapter of the Future Homemakers of America will compete for the office of the vice president of the state organization when the district meeting is held at B-C High School on Saturday.

Running for the state office are Grace Reddick and Shelly Bedell.

“Your Future with Home Economics” will be the theme of the annual District III FHA one-day convention to be held in the high school auditorium.

Registration will begin at 9:15 Saturday morning; the first session beginning at 10 o’clock with Ann Watts, president of District III FHA, presiding.

Serving as chairman of the welcoming committee is Phyllis Catoe, B-C High senior. Greetings will be extended by Cyril B Busbee, superintendent of the B-C Schools, and W. S. Parrish, principal of B-C High.

Included in the day’s program is a film entitled “Why Study Home Economics,” a talk by Dr. Alma Bentley, state supervisor of home economics education, on “Careers in Home Economics,” and a dress review in which self-made dresses will be modeled by FHA members.

Other events on the agenda include election of candidates to run for state offices, exhibition of scrapbooks, home projects and year books from participating chapters. Chapters entering all contests and rating “excellent” while carrying out required district activities will receive special awards.

Present District III officials are Ann Watts of Blaney, president; Trudy Koch of Chapin, vice president; Joan Derrick of Eau Claire, secretary; Linda Mangum of Pageland, treasurer; and Stella Kay Poole of Wagener reporter.
