SCHOLARSHIPS TO COLLEGES GIVEN

Scholarships awards to the University of South Carolina, Clemson, and Winthrop were made Tuesday by the state board of education, meeting in the office of Governor John G. Richards, chairman ex-officio; The awards included 11 new scholarships to the university, 29 holdovers, and three one year scholarships from the state at large: 40 new scholarships were awarded to Winthrop, 83 holdovers and one from the state at large; to Clemson 48 new awards were made, 30 holdovers and 11 from the state at large. Awards to the Citadel will be made at a subsequent meeting of the board, it was announced.

The board disposed of an appeal from the New Bethel township in Lancaster county by requesting the resignations of all members of the board and asked the Lancaster county school board to name a complete new board.
