Trenton School to Open

Special to The State.

Trenton, Aug. 23. – The Trenton high and grammar school will open Thursday morning, August 29, at 9 o’clock. The entire morning will be given over to registration and classification of pupils. The formal opening will be held at 10 o’clock Thursday morning, at which time the patrons will meet and hear of the plans for the school years. J. Strom Thurmond, the county superintendent of schools for Edgefield county, will make an address and introduce the new superintendent of the Trenton schools, who comes from Blaney, where he served as the superintendent for five years.

Thursday evening the women of the School Improvement association will give a reception for the teachers in the school lobby to which all patrons and friends of the school are invited. The guest of honor at this reception will be Miss Mattie E. Thomas, state supervisor of grammar schools, of Columbia. miss Thomas will make an address at the reception.

Many improvements have been made and planned for the Trenton school during the vacation and everybody feels that the coming term will be the best in the history of the Trenton schools. Departmental work will be introduced in the grammar school with special teacher of singing, art, and penmanship. The high school corse is being reorganized and a separate department made of the primary school. The faculty this years is as follows: Leonard Andrea, Blaney, superintendent: J. M. Cherry, Sumter; miss Mary Sparrow, Camden; Miss Connie Andrea, Taylors; Mrs. Miriam J. Miller, Trenton: Miss Margaret Law, Clio; Miss Amelia Hollis, Bennettsville; Miss Ivy Claxton, Johnston: Miss Lucy Scurry, Edgefield; and Miss May Harrison, Trenton.
