Jones C. Lucas was born January 7, 1881 and died December 12, 1962. During his final years he resided at single story stick built home on Huckabee Mill Road in Swansea, SC. He personal travel was by a green wagon pulled by his mule. The 1880 census shows he was 3 years old, possibly meaning he was born around 1877. He married the daughter on John Henry Wise & Mary Jane (Roberts) Wise. He was baptized in an outside pond or pool by Reverend Tom Hammill at Sardis Baptist in Swansea, SC in 1946. After his move to the Bullswamp Township, it is said he and his family lived as share croppers for about 1 yr until he could purchase land. He resided on the land owned by T.L. Martin until that time. He then purchased 25 acres from T.L. Jeffcoat in the amount of $2015.00, and continued through the years buying and selling different lands to farm. Jones was said to be a gifted musician playing the banjo or guitar. His headstone says he was born in 1884, but a listing in the June 1900 Census states his age to be 19. Possibly born in 1881.
