Aiken County Jamboree moved to Thursday

It’s going to feel like football season a night earlier than anticipated in Aiken County.

The Aiken County Jamboree has been moved up a day from Friday to Thursday, with festivities scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Silver Bluff High School.

The jamboree includes eight teams, with four match-ups that will each last for two 12-minute periods.

Up first is Barnwell vs. McCormick, followed by Ridge Spring-Monetta vs. Aiken at approximately 6:40, then Bamberg-Ehrhardt vs. South Aiken at 7:20 before wrapping up with host Silver Bluff vs. Wagener-Salley at 8.

Aiken County hasn’t hosted a jamboree since 2019. COVID-19 concerns forced cancellations in 2020 and ’21, and last year’s jamboree was scrapped after heavy rain produced unsafe field conditions at Silver Bluff.

The forecast wasn’t looking promising earlier in the week for this Friday, either, and as of Wednesday only a stray shower or possible thunderstorm were in the forecast for Thursday.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through GoFan or in cash at the gate.

No other jamboree plans for local schools had changed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Strom Thurmond High School is scheduled to host a jamboree of its own at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Saluda will face Batesburg-Leesville in the first half, and Strom Thurmond will play Brookland-Cayce in the second.

Also on the schedule Friday is the Barnwell County Jamboree, which is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Blackville-Hilda High School. The match-ups, in order, are Denmark-Olar vs. Swansea, Williston-Elko vs. Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, and Blackville-Hilda vs. Edisto.

Midland Valley is taking part in the Kershaw County Shriners Jamboree at North Central High School to face Lugoff-Elgin, while North Augusta is facing host Byrnes at the McDonald’s Kickoff Classic. Fox Creek played in the Emerald High School Jamboree on Tuesday.
