OBITUARY

Barbara Fripp King, 79, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on August 4, 2023. She was born on December 11, 1943, in Columbia, SC, the oldest daughter of the late Robert Linley Fripp and Carolyn Redwine Fripp.

Barbara attended Dreher High School in Columbia, SC and enrolled in the University of SC at the age of 16. In her early years, Barbara worked as a legal secretary for Heath Manning Company and the McNair Law firm. Barbara’s marriage to Captain John King inspired her to enjoy her first solo flight from Eagle Aviation, and the love of sailing as a member of the Columbia Sail Club on Lake Murray.

John and Barbara’s travels took them around the world, living in Jeddah Saudi Arabia where John flew for Saudi Arabian Airlines. Their retirement plan took them to The Chain of Lakes in Winter Haven, Florida near the Brown Seaplane Base. Barbara enjoyed being an active member of the Seaplane Club, where the Aerospace expo SUN ‘n Fun took place.

Once in Winter Haven, Barbara took up computer software programming with her son, Bill at Crown International Aviation.

Barbara was an avid Disney fan. Her most cherished memories were of days spent with her beloved grandchildren vacationing at the beach and visiting Disney World.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Rebecca K. Cohen; grandson, Daniel Robert Cohen; daughter-in-law, Brandie King; granddaughter, Nealy Caroline King; sister, Penny Fripp Jones; brother-in-law, Clifton Jones; and her three nieces, Rebecca Linley Jones, Erin Jones Granger, and Lisa Jones.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Captain John L. King and her son, Allen Wilbur (Bill) King.

Services will be private for the family.
