Growing up in Newton with her older sister Marion, she spent every free moment outdoors and playing sports. She was often high scorer on her varsity basketball team and after entering Duke University she served on the Women’s Athletic Association Board. Their three sons were raised there until Dupont transferred the family to Camden, SC in 1968. She loved the Thursday Book Club and was president of the Charity League; she also was a “Pink Lady” at the Camden hospital for 15 years. Betty was a lifelong and active member of the Methodist Church in Newton, Martinsville, and Camden, serving as circle leader and on many committees and service projects. Betty and Dick loved golf and played many rounds at Camden Country Club as well as dozens of other courses in their travels across the United States and Europe. In 2005, Betty and Dick moved to a retirement community in Columbia where they lived their later years enjoying new activities with both old and new friends and their growing extended family.
