Obituary of Darryl B. “Bundy” Maples, Sr.
LUGOFF – Funeral service for Darryl Maples, 89, will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Springvale Baptist Church, Lugoff, with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Pastor Todd Horton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Springvale Baptist Church.
Mr. Maples, husband of Lorna Jean Stanley Maples, died Saturday, November 4, 2023. Born in Rock Hill, S.C., he was the son of the late Rufus Byrum Maples and Gertrude Eulala Gallman Maples. He served in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He worked at Ft. Jackson in Civil Service in Columbia, S.C. for 22 years. Mr. Maples was a Master Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge 395 Blythewood for 63 years. He was a member of Springvale Baptist Church in Lugoff where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed working on his Kubota Tractor and volunteered its service as Springvale built a new church worship center. He loved his country, his family, and his church, and served them all with his all.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Jean Maples, is his son Darryl B. Maples, Jr. (Donna) of Blythewood; daughter, Barbara Medlock (Randy) of Lugoff; brother, Franklin D. Maples, Sr.; sister, Elizabeth McCarty (Byron); 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Billie B. Maples; and sisters, Frances Grafton, Sylvia Ivie, and Millie Ward.
