Interest high in Lewisville opening

If early returns are any indication, the candidate pool for the Lewisville High football job will be both deep and wide.

The job has officially been open for two weeks now, with Former Coach Leon Boulware having stepped down to take the head coach and athletic director job at Lugoff-Elgin. Even though the position wasn’t posted until last week, Athletic Director Kirk Cannon said as of early Monday, nearly 30 applications have been received so far. Those have been “filtered through” he said, with the plan being to have the first interviews scheduled by the end of this week.

Boulware spent two years at Lewisville, posting a record of 21-4. His teams won two region titles and won three playoff games. This past year, the Lions spent most of the season ranked at number one in the polls, with the only regular season loss being in the opener to eventual AA state champion Oceanside Collegiate. In seven of the team’s games this past year, there was a running clock with Lewisville winning by wide margins.

Defensive coordinator Trent Usher has been named interim head coach while the coaching search is ongoing.
