Earl J. Jacobs Withdraws

Earl J. Jacobs of Pontiac, today withdrew as a candidate for Richland County commissioner from Center township.

His actorion will thus free the incumbent, J. G. (Jock) Wilson from opposition at the August 13 primary, unless the race is re-opened when the county executive committeemen meet at 10 o’clock Monday morning at the Hotel Wade Hampton.

It marked the second change within the week in the county commissioner’s contests.

The death of A. G. Dent, candidate for the county commissioner from Columbia township, has left Ed C. Harris unopposed.

in the case of death or withdrawal of a candidate 10 days prior to the first primary, under party rules (No. 26), the executive committee may again open the entry lists, or keep the closed, as the majority desires.

Mr. Jacobs, who operates three saw mills and a farm, has been so busy that he could not spare the time to conduct a campaign. His resignation in writing will be submitted to action of the county executive committee Monday.

Mr. Jacobs specifically waived the $50 he had previosly posted as a candidate for the office and it will be retained by the party.
