Man Receives Fine in Sugar Report Case

Earl J. Jacobs received a fine and suspended sentence in U. S. District Court today for failing to file reports of large sugar sale as ordered by the U. S. Treasury Department.

Jacobs was found guilty of this rare charge by a jury on Wednesday.

He was charged with disposing of 150 pounds of sugar from his Pontiact supermarket without filing the proper report.

Jacob was under order to file reports of any sugar sales in excess of 24 pounds becuase government agents thought he was handling more sugar than his small patronage would demand.

Judge Charles E. Simons Jr., fined Jacobs $500 and suspended the 18 months sentence. He will be on probation five years.

The defendant has 30 days to pay the fine.
