Horace T. Jacobs, Columbia tailor for 30 years, announced yesterday he is a candidate for Democratic nomination to the Richland County Commission for the Columbia Township in the primary this summer.
“In making this announcement, I want to say that I am offering for County Commissioner on my own and if I am elected I intend to serve for the best interest of all the people of my county.” he said.
Mr. Jacobs was born in Richland County, a son of the late Hampton and Laura Jacobs of Pontiac. He attended the rural schools of the county and was graduated from Bowen-McFeat Business College in 1918.
He is married to the former Miss Clara Mae Kizer of Holly Hill, and they have four children, Syliva, a student at the University of South Carolina, Hampton a senior at Dreher High, Larry and Johnnie, students at Brennen Grammar School.
Mr. Jacobs is a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbia; a district deputy grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias for the Domain of South Carolina; a member of Columbia Lodge 1190, B. P. O. Elks, and the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
