John Downey Obituary

A memorial service to celebrate the life of John Daniel “Danny” Downey, 74, will be held at noon on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 1301 Mill Street, Camden, SC.  Rev. Roy Butler will officiate.  Visitation with family will be held one hour prior to the service at 11:00 AM.  Memorials may be made to Thiel-Meyer Animal Shelter, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC or www.kchumanesociety.org, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4151 Spruill Ave., N. Danny died on April 12, 2024, at home after a short illness.  Born on March 28, 1950, in Waynesboro, VA, he was the son of the late James Robert (Jack) Downey and Anna Belle Shumate Downey. 

Danny is survived by his wife of 44 years, Niki Bellavia Downey; daughters, Danielle Vinson (Eric), of  Camden, Amanda Faust (James), of Charleston and granddaughters, Emma and Anna Vinson.

Danny was brother to the late Jackie Johnson (Wayne); the late Linda McLeod (Cliff); the late Bobby Downey (Barbara); and the late Cindy Wirt (David). 

Uncle to the late Tal Johnson (Laura); Chuck Johnson (Mary); Melanie Medeiros (Gordy); the late Dana Downey Schmidt (Casey); Matthew Downey (Lauren); Marc Downey; Lee McLeod; Charlie McLeod; David Wirt; and Rusty Wirt, along with many great nieces and nephews.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
