Obituary for Mrs. Grady L. Martin

Elgin, South Carolina – Mrs. Grady L. Martin, 84, of Elgin, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, April 14, 2024. She was born to the late Dariel Leroy Shannon and Daisy Peake Shannon on July 11, 1939, in Columbia, SC.

She was a long-time member of Alpine Baptist Church in Columbia. She worked in both the Baptist and Providence hospitals as a ward clerk for a combined 14 years.

She is survived by her son, Furman E. Martin (Linda) of Elgin; sister, Naomi McDowell of Visalia, CA; two grandsons; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Furman E. Martin; daughter, Franki Martin Agnew; sister, Georgia S. Martin; and brother, Dariel “Jack” Shannon.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, from 5 until 7 o’clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 19, at 11 o’clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel. Burial will follow at Sonrise Baptist Church Cemetery, 4930 Alpine Road, Columbia, SC.
