Carolyn Ann Sinclair Obituary

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, Carolyn Ann Sinclair, loving wife and mother of five children, ten grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, passed away in Knoxville TN at the age of 87.

Carolyn (known as Carol by family and friends) was born on December 2, 1936, in Waynesville North Carolina to Gene and Nettie Powers. She graduated from high school in 1954, took several college classes in administration, and held several positions during her life, including financial administrator for a landscaping company in Texas. She also served on the Farragut TN Museum Committee for five years.

In 1957, she married John Carl Sinclair Jr., a Textile Engineer from Clemson University. They raised three sons, John, Joel (Joe), James Richard (Rick), and a daughter, Jana. Carol and John Jr. lived in eight different states as they followed his career path and made several life-long friends along their journey. John Jr. passed away in Sugarland Texas in 2004 after their 47 years of marriage.

Carol moved from Texas to Farragut, Tennessee in 2008 to be closer to family. She joined the First Baptist Concord Church in Farragut where she was an active member of the Sunday School class and enjoyed helping with the Water Angels program. She was actively involved with her neighborhood association, serving as treasurer, and then president. She enjoyed many hobbies, including reading, playing bridge & dominoes, sewing, quilting, canning, candy making, and jewelry making. She was an avid backyard birdwatcher, with a personal focus on hummingbirds. She set up multiple birdfeeders, usually right outside her kitchen windows, and watched them daily. Hummingbird figurines featured prominently throughout her home.

In 2019, Carol left Tennessee for a few years, first living near Joe and Rick in Garner NC, and then with Jana in Phoenix AZ, before returning to Farragut as a resident of NHC in early 2022.

Carol was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Teresa; husband, John Sinclair Jr.; father and mother, Gene Powers and Nettie Lynch; sister Judy, and brother Ken Powers. She is survived by four of her children: John III (Kathie), Joe (Selena), Rick (Janet), and Jana (Jeff); ten grandchildren; Maria, Tiffany, John IV, Krystal, Ricky, Randy, Melissa, Jennifer, Jacob; and Sinclair (Clair); and her great-grandchildren.

Carolyn will be laid to rest next to John Sinclair Jr. at a graveside service held in the Malvern Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Camden, South Carolina, at 1:00 p.m. on June 8th, 2024.

 Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden, will provide the funeral arrangements.
