Man Drowns In Congaree

The body of William Lyles Ferguson, 33, of Winnsboro, was recovered yesterday afternoon by city firemen from the Congaree river on the Guignard place off Bluff Road, Coroner W. A. Plott said.

Ferguson drowned at 4 o’clock yesterday when the boat, in which he and three others were fishing capsized.

City Firemen, M. L. Edgens, Clyde Hurt, A. B. Lee, and Warren Reddick recovered the body at 6:30 p.m.

With Ferguson when the boat capsized were Francis Marion Roddey, Jr., and two boys. Coroner Plott said no inquest would be held.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Smyrna Church near Centerville, conducted by the Rev. Frank Moore, pastor of the Gordon Memorial Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alma Wilson Ferguson; four children, William Marion, Carolyn, Edward and Annette; is father, J. P. Ferguson and four brothers, Alfred and Frank Ferguson of Winnsboro, James Marion Ferguson of Blythewood, and Julius Ferguson with the armed forces in camp in Alabama; four sisters, Mrs. H. L. Davis and Mrs. Helen Oleen Ferguson of Portsmouth, Va.; Miss Thelma Ferguson of Winnsboro; and Mrs. R. A. Helms of Chester.
