Barbara Adolphson Obituary
Barbara Mehl Adolphson, affectionately known as “Gram” and “Momma”, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2024, while surrounded by her loved ones in Lugoff, SC.
Barbara’s journey began on October 12, 1936, when she was born to Raymond and Florence Schoenberg Mehl in Hackensack, NJ. Her childhood was filled with 4 amazing siblings and life’s simple joys, which laid the foundation for her abundantly filled life and love of the Lord.
Barbara was a cherished member of the Adolphson and Mehl families. After graduating nursing school in Hackensack, NJ, in 1955, she married her beloved husband, Cliff Adolphson, Sr. in a ceremony at their family church, marking the beginning of a shared life filled with love, adventure and the joy of being parents. Her heart had found her counterpart in Cliff and their marriage was blessed with three children; Cliff Adolphson, Jr. (Tracy), Carl Adolphson, and Carin Adolphson Brazell, who were the joy of her life. Barbara and Cliff brought their children to Lugoff, SC to raise their family where they were very involved in the community. After their youngest left the nest to pursue her own life, they moved to Foscoe, NC, to enjoy the golden years surrounded by beauty and the sweet smell of mountain air.
All who were blessed to know Barbara will remember her for her “yankee-southern”, sassy and outspoken nature who loved to spread the love of Jesus with everyone. Her 7 grands and 9 great-grands will remember her always as their funny and creative “Gram”.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, her parents and three siblings. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her children, grands, surviving sister, Florence Janho (John), of Somerset, NJ and remaining family which includes numerous nieces and nephews as well as wonderful friends and her loving church family at Foscoe Christian Church in Foscoe, NC.
Barbara will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in those that shared her life with her.
Had it not been for the unwavering love and constant care of Denise Baker, Kathleen Stover, Alyson Barnett, and the staff of MUSC Hospice, it would not have been possible to keep Gram at home where she wished to be. Her children will forever be grateful for this opportunity.
As per her wishes, a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date in Foscoe, NC, where the combined ashes of her and Cliff will be released on the wings of the wind in the North Carolina Mountains.
Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is assisting the family.
