Michael Sanford Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael Bailey Sanford, 81, will be held at 12:00 PM noon, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1709 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC. Burial at Quaker Cemetery will follow. A Rosary will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel to be followed by a visitation until 8:00 PM. 

Michael Bailey Sanford passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was born in Dallas, TX, the son of the late Bascom Neal and Arline Jane O’Riley Sanford. He was a 1961 graduate of South Oak Cliff High School and went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in 1964. Following college, Michael enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska and on the USS Chicago. After his military service, Michael founded American Wallcovering Incorporated. 

Michael is survived by his wife of 12 years, Amanda Kay Sheheen; children, Austin Joseph (Hannah), Olivia Lucile, Attis Bailey, Abraham Michael, and Oliver Moses, all of Camden; grandchildren, Isla Reece and Boykin James; sister, Cecelia Ann Polzer of Garland, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brothers, Geoffrey Sanford and Jack Neal Sanford.

As a lifelong Texan, Michael was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Texas A&M Aggies. He was also an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. Other than the love of his family, Michael enjoyed his faith, numismatic collecting, stamp collecting, and reading. He also loved hunting, farming, and being the 12th man.

Memorials for Michael may be made to either Food for the Soul or OLPH Catholic Church.
