BLYTHEWOOD HIGH BLYTHEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL’S ProStart Team took first place in the state’s culinary arts contest held in Myrtle Beach. Demonta Brown, Rickey Butler, Chloe Cincotta, Haley Gunter and Troy Richardson will compete in the National ProStart Invitational April 10-May 2, in Overland Park, Kansas. Teacher William Turner took second place in the Restaurant Management Cup Standings. ProStart, a two-year curriculum designed to teach high school students management and culinary arts skills, is administered by the S.C. Hospitality Association.

SV DISCOVERY STUDENTS presented research at the 39th annual Junior Science and Humanities Symposium Jan. 29 at USC. Participants were Lauren Roth, Sean Noh, Benjy Strauss, Anurag Deeconda, Eric Shine, Kekeli Dawes, Rachel Smith, Ming Wong, Emily Bakaj, Nancy Zhong, Justin Lozano and Jake Farell. Anurag Deeconda took first place and will compete in the national competition; Eric Shine brought home a third place win and a scholarship; and Kekili Dawes was awarded fourth place.

SCHOLARSHIPS
CAROLINE BURNS, a senior at the College of Charleston, has been awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year. Her scholarship will support a year of study in the master’s program at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. She also plans to work with a Rotary Club in Kampala on a project that serves AIDS orphans. A 2006 graduate of A.C. Flora High School, she is a political science major and an economics minor.
