BLANEY, S. C., March 30. – The John D. Kenneth Chapter U. D. C., of Camden, has presented to the high school here a set of six pictures of the Confederate Generals from Kershaw county who served in the Confederate War. The pictures are of Gen. John D. Kennedy, Gen: Joseph B. Kershaw, Gen. James Cantey, Gen. James Chestnut, Gen. Zachery C. Deas and Gen. John B. Villepigue. These pictures will be presented formally on the evening of May 27, with special exercises in the school auditorium.
Misses Connie and Willie May Andrea had as their guests during the State Teachers’ convention, Misses Clara Childress and Mary Campbell of Taylors; Misses Cornelia and Alyice Howard, of Boneau, and Miss Emmy James, of Winthrop.
Miss Myra Powell, of Latta, has returned home after visiting Miss Mildred Bowen.
Miss Mary Stanley, of Columbia, spent last week-end here with Miss Mabel Dixon.
Fred Bishop, of Greenville, was the guest of Leonard Andrea last week.
Wood Kelly has returned to Branchville after visiting his mother, Mrs. Kate Kelly.
Niss Dezma Monroe or Summerland college; Miss Beatrice Ross, of Greenville Woman’s college, and Misses Nelle and Mildred Evans, of Chicora College, are here with relatives for the spring holidays.
Mrs. D. W. Traxler and daughter, Margie, are spending the Easter vacation in Branchville with Dr. and Mrs. W. F. McKewn.
The 11th grade gave an enjoyable Easter program Thursday during the assembly hour.
Miss Louise Ross has returned from Columbia, where she was the guest of Miss Eleanor Grace Kelly.
Misa Cleo Evans has returned from Columbia where she spent last week.
Much interest has been manifested in the Sunday school training institute that is being held in the Baptist Church this week by Mrs. Nolan, of Columbia, and Rev. Edgar Johnson, of Duncan.
Miss Alma Burgess, Kershaw county home demonstration agent, met with the cooking and sewing clubs Tuesday and the winners were announced in the contests. In the yeast bread contest, Beulah Spradley came first, Ada Branham second and Virginia Campbell third. In the room improvement contest, Sarah Maude Miles came first, Valdora Perry second, and Eliza Jane Lovett third. In the high school club, Fannie Monroe was judged to be the healthiest, Mae Belle Moore to have shown the most improvement in health, and Ada Belle Price had the best record card in cooking.
