Roger Hucker Obituary
Roger Neal Hucker, 73, of Bluffton, SC, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, with his daughter, Carrie at his side. Born May 15, 1951, in Waukegan, IL., he was the son of Charles and Florence (Holma) Hucker.
Roger was a proud Gator, having graduated from the University of Florida, with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1974. He had a successful 41-year career with DuPont Chemical Company until he retired in 2015.
Roger met his wife Vickie on a blind date shortly after he moved to Camden, SC, to start his career with DuPont. They were married six months later and shared 48 years of marriage until Vickie’s passing in 2023. Roger and Vickie leave three daughters, Carrie Jaumann (Douglas), Abigail Hucker, Tabitha Grooms, and several grandchildren. Roger is survived by his two siblings, Cheryl Garcia (Richard) and Steven Hucker (Carole), and two nieces and their families.
Roger and Vickie lived in Wilmington, Delaware, where they attended the (now) Greenbank Church of Christ, and later built a home in Landenberg, Pennsylvania. While Roger traveled a great deal for his job, when he was home, you could always find him building or fixing something. As an engineer, there was nothing Roger couldn’t fix or build. One of his biggest projects was fully restoring a 1974 SL Mercedes Benz. In the summer months, he loved to swim with his children and grandchildren and to spend time with his beloved labrador retriever.
Roger was a very active member of his church, and served as a Deacon and then an Elder at Cedars Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Fair Hill International Planning Committee, now known as the Maryland 5 Star, and served on the Board of Directors for Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program. You could also find him volunteering his time and using his auction fundraising software, which he developed, to help non-profits reach their fundraising goals. Giving to others made Roger happy and he spent his life ensuring he was leaving this world a better place, always willing to help anyone in need.
After retirement, Roger and Vickie moved to Bluffton, South Carolina and spent their time traveling the world together and enjoying their children and grandchildren. Any time Roger was with his family, especially his wife, he was content. Roger was born to be a husband, father, and grandfather, and he truly blessed his family with his kindness and love.
A celebration of life will be held at Greenbank Church of Christ, formerly Cedars Church of Christ, in Wilmington, Delaware, on March 22, 2025, where Roger and Vickie worshiped. Friends and family are welcome to gather at 2:00 PM, with services starting at 3:00
PM. A light meal and refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall after.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Roger to Paws for Life, Inc., PO Box 407, Chesapeake City, Maryland, 21915, or to Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program, 33 Rolling Hills Ranch Ln., Port Deposit, Maryland, 21904.
