Priscilla Hammond Obituary

Again, a human spirit has taken flight at the call of the Heavenly Father to the mansion prepared for her from the foundation of the earth by an all wise, loving, all knowing just God.

Priscilla Reid Hammond was welcomed home by the Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 17, 2025.  She left this world of turmoil, sin and pain to enter into that peaceful and restful place called eternity.  Today our family and friends pay tribute to her transition and celebrate her final homegoing.

Priscilla Reid Hammond, the only daughter of her predeceased parents, Herbert Eugene Reid, Sr., and Ellen Craig Reid, was born, July 28, 1940.

Priscilla was a strong woman of faith and determination.  She often remarked about the goodness of the Lord and how He was her strength.  She gave her life to the Lord at an early age while attending Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Camden, South Carolina where her father was a deacon. After relocating to Washington, DC., she continued her Christian experience at Canaan Baptist Church and later worshipped at the Brookland Baptist Church.

Priscilla graduated from Jackson High School in Camden, SC. Following high school, she matriculated at Merrill School of Business in Greenwich Connecticut.  Upon graduation, from Merrill, she served as an Executive Assistant at the Law Firm of Omega Psi Phi for Judge Carl L. Moultrie in Washington, DC.

In 1965, she married the late George Hammond and from this union one daughter was born, Kaaren Ellen Hammond.

She later joined the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) where she served several years and would eventually serve as the Executive Director in Columbia, SC after relocating home to Camden, SC.  She served as the Executive Director for 25 years. Following the conclusion of her tenure at OIC, she felt the call to change career paths to pursue another passion.   She would often say, her mother told her as a little child, that she was put here on earth to help people. This was the fire and motivation behind every goal in her life.

Priscilla was beautiful inwardly and outwardly. Excellence marked everything she touched. She was generous and shared with the community by feeding the homeless and giving clothing and other toiletries to those in need. Ms. Hammond was the Principal and Co-Owner of Kaapri Enterprises.  A business she and her daughter Kaaren started in 1992.  Ms. Hammond utilized the skills she gained in Corporate America and in the nonprofit industry to provide a diversity of services to Housing Authorities and Corporate clients.  Priscilla always displayed the epitome of grace, style and class.  She was known for her business suits, heels and corporate savvy.  Her presence, knowledge and resourcefulness gained her much respect in the business community,

Priscilla was preceded in death, by her only sibling, a brother, Herbert Eugene Reid, Jr., and her beautiful daughter Kaaren Ellen Hammond, whom was the one love of her life.

Priscilla’s memory will be cherished forever by Victor Alonza Reid (nephew/son), Atlanta, GA, who she considered her son and was instrumental in his rearing.
